Miguel Cabrera?

Giants in hot persuit of Cabrera

San Francisco Chronicle "The Giants would be more than happy to land Cabrera, a career .313 hitter who has 138 home runs at age 24. Many teams are pursuing Cabrera, and it widely is believed that the Dodgers or Angels might have a better shot to land him because they have more prospects to trade. For the Giants to get him, they almost certainly would have to part with a top young pitcher, perhaps Tim Lincecum."

The biggest strength the Giants have is young arms like Cain & Lincecum. Cabrera is an excellent hitter, but he K's a lot, plays mediocre defense, has a weight issue and some people feel he doesn't always give 100%. Let the Angels or the Dodgers overpay with their young prospects and then have to give Cabrera the bank when his contract comes up.

I agree with you. The Giants are in the midst of change and pitching is the strength and backbone of the present and future. Cain and Lincecum could potentially rival Marichal and Perry in the sixties. Brian Sabian has his work cut out for him. Unfortunately, the philosopy of concentrating on pitching has boxed him in. Cabrera is an enticing talent...hopefully, he will read your posting.
