Joe Crede...anyone?

mlbtraderumors.com
John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus checks in with his usual Sunday column. He's got some new hot stove material to consider.
Perrotto suggests that Joe Crede is on the Giants' radar if they don't re-sign Pedro Feliz (hat tip South Side Sox). Crede seems like he'll be involved in one of those late Spring Training deals, given the need to prove his health.
Comment: One wonders the direction Giants management is embarking. Aaron Rowand is an excellent pick up. Joe Crede (provided he is healthy) is an interesting possibility. Here it is, mid-January and the roster is far from complete. The one positive thing is that Cain and Lincecum remain. The next month between today and the start of Spring Training will be very interesting. Still needed....3B, 1B, and relief pitching and the rumor mill has been silent as a snake hunting a mouse.

If Feliz hasn't been picked up by now, he's probably going to stay.

With the Giants' management doing so little to acquire anybody through trade, this is what I think the infield will flesh out this year. Ortmeier should get the start at first base. Aurelia would be a challenge for that position, but I like Ortmeier's long wing span and general quickness around 1st base, and on the bases.

I'd like to see Frandsen get the start at 2nd base. He really came on strong towards the end of last year and looks to be getting a bit more relaxed hitting ML pitching. Having said that, Durham will get the start. After all, they're not paying him all that money to sit the bench. We'll all be hoping that last year was an abberation and that Durham can bring some youth back to his ailing, failing body.

At shortstop, the ageless one, Omar Vizquel...need I say more?

Feliz at 3rd. Even with his inability to hit the opposite way, low on-base percentage, high strike out rate, and fear of the slider, his medium power, strong arm, and better than average defense will keep him in the starting lineup.

And behind the dish Molina the Mighty is good for at least 120 games, and probably 20 or so pinch hit appearances.

With Aurelia and Frandsen backing them up, we'll have a team without a lot of homerun power, but with good gap to gap power (with the exception of pull happy Feliz) and good wheels on the bases (with the exception of Molina, the human stop sign).

There you have it; the official, unofficial starting infield.

I, of course, reserve the right to change, ignore, or outright deny the existence of this comment.
