Dodgers at the plate: James Loney rapped two hits, but the Dodgers couldn't sustain much offense, stranding 11 baserunners through eight innings.
Giants at the plate: Consecutive hits by Randy Winn, Edgar Renteria, Fred Lewis and Bengie Molina sparked a three-run uprising in the third.
Dodgers on the mound: James McDonald exceeded his goal of throwing 75 pitches, totaling 82. But that took him through only four innings. Los Angeles' No. 5 starter yielded three runs and six hits while walking two and striking out five.
Giants on the mound: Jonathan Sanchez almost constantly pitched from the stretch position but faltered only when Loney singled home Juan Pierre with two outs in the third inning. The left-hander struck out six in 4 2/3 innings, extending his spring total to 21 in 18 1/3 innings.
Up next: The Dodgers, who play their first 13 regular-season games against National League West foes and 27 of 30 within the division, begin meaningful play Monday against the Padres in San Diego. Dodgers right-hander Hiroki Kuroda will oppose Padres ace Jake Peavy. The Giants will hold a workout Monday before opening the season Tuesday against Milwaukee. Right-handers Tim Lincecum of San Francisco and Jeff Suppan of Milwaukee are the scheduled starting pitchers.
