GIANTS 7, A'S 4
at San Francisco
Thursday, April 2

A's at the plate: Batting .143 at the time, Eric Chavez swatted his first exhibition homer, a two-run drive in the fourth inning. Nomar Garciaparra, who might not spend much time on the bench this season, rapped a pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth.

Giants at the plate: Bengie Molina went 3-for-5 and scored two runs. Pablo Sandoval also had three hits, including a first-inning RBI double and a seventh-inning, run-scoring triple. Edgar Renteria generated some offense, walking and scoring in the first inning before hitting a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

A's on the mound: Trevor Cahill, preparing for his role as Oakland's No. 2 starter, allowed three first-inning runs but settled down afterward, surrendering one run and three hits in his next four innings.

Giants on the mound: Tim Lincecum displayed some of his best stuff of the spring, striking out eight in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed three runs but only four hits and walked just one.

Up next: The A's and Giants play a rematch Friday night at AT&T Park starting at 7:15 p.m. PT. Oakland left-hander Dana Eveland, looking for his first exhibition victory, will oppose Randy Johnson, who'll make his first home appearance as a Giant.
