Giants show off Cain's arm, Velez's legs


Denker hits two-run homer; McClain's single drives in two

Giants at the plate: Eugenio Velez had a single and a walk and stole three bases. He scored on Aaron Rowand's tiebreaking single in the fifth. Pinch-hitter Scott McClain added a two-run single in the five-run fifth. Travis Denker hit a two-run homer in the seventh.


Cubs at the plate: Felix Pie led off the fifth with his second spring homer, and Alex Cintron and Eric Patterson added back-to-back doubles that inning. Kosuke Fukudome went 0-for-3 in his third game. Andres Torres hit a two-run homer in the seventh.


Giants on the mound: Matt Cain became the first Giants pitcher to go three innings and did so in his first start. He threw three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and one walk while striking out two.


Cubs on the mound: Ted Lilly made his spring debut and gave up one run on two hits and one walk over two innings, striking out two. Neal Cotts gave up five runs on three hits and three walks over two-thirds of an inning.


Cactus League records: Giants 2-3; Cubs 1-3.


Up next: The Giants play host to the Texas Rangers on Monday, sending Noah Lowry to the mound for his second spring start. The Cubs travel Monday to Peoria to face the Seattle Mariners. Jon Lieber, back with the Cubs for the second time, and Sean Marshall are both slated to pitch. Lieber was the team's last 20-game winner, going 20-6 in 2001.
