Padres drop Giants 9-6

Giants at the plate: Aaron Rowand continued his hot start, as he slugged a two-run home run in the fourth inning off Padres reliever Tim Stauffer. The next batter, Rich Aurilia, followed with a long home run to left-center field, the first of his two hits. Ray Durham knocked in a run, as did Rajai Davis with a double.
Padres on the mound: Starting pitcher Greg Maddux cruised in his first start of the spring, needing only 18 pitches (16 strikes) to get through two scoreless innings with four of the six outs coming on ground balls. Stauffer allowed two home runs in three innings. Wilton Lopez allowed one run in his two innings.
Giants on the mound: Starter Tim Lincecum opened with two scoreless innings but ran into trouble in the third inning, allowing three runs on two hits. Lincecum threw 49 pitches and struck out three. Relievers Jonathan Sanchez, Keiichi Yabu and Brian Wilson allowed a combined six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Cactus League records: Padres 3-2, Giants 2-5
Up next: The Padres hit the road Wednesday for a Cactus League game against the Oakland A's at 12:05 p.m. PT at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Randy Wolf starts for the Padres and will throw two innings. Shawn Estes will follow with two innings. Then Justin Germano, who tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his Cactus League debut, follows with three innings. Barry Zito gets the start for the Giants, who play host to Kansas City, on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. PT.
