White Sox at the plate: Chicago flexed its muscles with one-out home runs by Carlos Quentin in the third inning and Paul Konerko in the sixth. Konerko and Jermaine Dye drove in first-inning runs with two-out doubles.
Giants at the plate: San Francisco trailed 4-0 before rallying. Nate Schierholtz and Eugenio Velez hit two-out RBI doubles in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively. The Giants forged ahead with four runs in the eighth as Scott McClain hit an RBI single, Kevin Frandsen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham mishandled a relay on a potential double-play grounder. For the third game in a row, San Francisco went scoreless for five innings against an established starting pitcher. This time it was John Danks, following Milwaukee's Jeff Suppan and the Cubs' Ryan Dempster.
White Sox on the mound: Danks yielded four hits in five innings and allowed just one Giant to reach scoring position. The left-hander has allowed one run in 10 innings spanning his last two outings. Aaron Poreda could not suppress the Giants in the seventh and eighth innings.
Giants on the mound: Matt Cain lasted 5 2/3 innings, the most by a Giant so far this spring. Bob Howry pitched a scoreless inning for the second day in a row. Merkin Valdez, competing for a spot in the bullpen, contributed a scoreless eighth.
Cactus League records: White Sox 10-12; Giants 11-12
