Rough going for Zito vs. Royals

Lewis legs out triple; Wilson strikes out two in scoreless eighth

Royals at the plate: Mike Jacobs and Mark Teahen paced the offense. Teahen finished with a pair of homers, a double, two RBIs and four runs scored, while Jacobs contributed a two-run shot. Tony Pena Jr. also had a nice day at the plate with three singles, driving in a run with his first knock. Willie Bloomquist added a two-run single in the seventh.

Giants at the plate: Fred Lewis hustled into third on a fourth-inning triple and scored a batter later. Randy Winn singled and doubled, and Pablo Sandoval and Emmanuel Burriss both singled twice.

Royals on the mound: Luke Hochevar shut down San Francisco by tossing 4 1/3 innings of one-run ball, yielding six hits and a walk while striking out a pair. The righty was around the strike zone all day, as 42 of his 57 pitches went for strikes. Heath Phillips followed by giving up two runs in three innings.

Giants on the mound: Barry Zito struggled in an outing in which he allowed six runs and 10 hits in five innings, walking three without a strikeout. The left-hander gave up a pair of home runs and needed 85 pitches to complete his day's work. Closer Brian Wilson tossed a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts.

Cactus League records: Royals 10-6; Giants 8-11

Up next: The Royals will face off against the White Sox on Monday at 3:05 p.m. CT at Camelback Ranch, with Kansas City's Gil Meche slated to start against Chicago's Bartolo Colon. The Giants will host the Angels at 1:05 p.m. PT at Scottsdale Stadium on Monday. Tim Lincecum will get the start for San Francisco against Nick Adenhart.
