Zito strikes out seven in Giants' wind-shortened victory
Chris Haft MLB.com GIANTS 5, CUBS 3 (6 1/2 innings) at Scottsdale, Ariz. Thursday, March 26
Cubs at the plate: Milton Bradley, who went 2-for-2, capitalized on 25-mph winds gusting up to 30 mph that blew to right field, lofting a second-inning homer into the breeze. Chicago added two runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Alfonso Soriano and Derrek Lee. The game was called after 6 1/2 innings due to the wind.
Giants at the plate: Fred Lewis went 2-for-2, doubling and scoring in the third and grounding an RBI single in the sixth. Eight of Lewis' last 14 hits have gone for extra bases. Pablo Sandoval stroked RBI singles in the third and fifth innings. Trying to prove that he can hit left-handed pitching, Travis Ishikawa lashed an RBI single off Cubs lefty Sean Marshall in the third. Aaron Rowand's fifth-inning RBI single broke a 3-3 tie.
Cubs on the mound: Marshall, who has sealed the No. 5 starter's spot, yielded two runs and four hits in four innings. He also walked five, but none of those runners came around to score. Closer candidate Carlos Marmol, who's also scheduled to pitch Friday, allowed two fifth-inning runs.
Giants on the mound: Barry Zito struck out the side in the first inning and accumulated seven strikeouts in five innings. He also allowed three runs and seven hits. Luis Perdomo, making his first Cactus League appearance since March 16, pitched two scoreless innings.

Fukudome was busy with the World Baseball Classic and batted .200 with a .407 on-base percentage with Team Japan.

Bob Howry, Jeremy Affeldt, Merkin Valdez and Osiris Matos are scheduled to relieve for the Giants.
