Giants at the plate: Tied, 3-3, the Giants forged ahead on home runs by Rich Aurilia in the fourth inning, Pablo Sandoval in the fifth and Jesus Guzman in the seventh. Sandoval's homer was his second in two days; Guzman's was a two-run poke. San Francisco added three runs in the eighth on Dave Roberts' bases-loaded single and Buster Posey's second hit, an infield single. Earlier, Travis Ishikawa hit an RBI double and Emmanuel Burriss grounded a run-scoring single in the second, then Fred Lewis doubled and scored on Bengie Molina's single in the third.
Dodgers at the plate: Trailing, 7-3, Los Angeles scored three runs in the seventh, two coming on Xavier Paul's single. Delwyn Young's RBI single and Juan Castro's sacrifice fly in the eighth kept the Dodgers close. Earlier, James Loney's single, Mitch Jones' double and Blake DeWitt's groundout generated a second-inning run. Andre Ethier lofted a two-run, opposite-field homer to left on Barry Zito's 3-0 pitch in the third inning.
Giants on the mound: Ethier's homer notwithstanding, Zito maintained his focus on the strike zone, issuing one walk in 2 2/3 innings. Pat Misch, who yielded five runs in two-thirds of an inning in his previous outing, rebounded by pitching 1 1/3 shutout innings. Jeremy Affeldt and Bob Howry each contributed a scoreless inning before Billy Sadler allowed three runs in the seventh.
Dodgers on the mound: Starter Clayton Kershaw lasted two innings, surrendering two runs and four hits. James McDonald and Scott Elbert yielded a home run apiece, though Elbert struck out two in his 1 1/3-inning appearance. Guillermo Mota blanked the Giants in the sixth inning. But Victor Garate and Brent Leach combined to allow five runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Cactus League records: Giants 4-4; Dodgers 3-4
Up next: The Giants return home on Thursday to oppose the Oakland A's, their cross-bay rivals at 12:05 p.m. PT. Rookie right-hander Joe Martinez will start for San Francisco, followed by Keiichi Yabu, Justin Miller and Waldis Joaquin, among others. Right-hander Trevor Cahill is scheduled to start for the A's.
